Worked on an art test - I think I will end up doing more work on it. I know the cardinal sin is to NOT put art tests on your portfolio website- However, this is a WIP blog, and I was super happy with how she turned out. I do believe I will go back in and tweak her a bit and try to get more contrast and bring down the saturation on her dress. Texturing in a cintiq makes things rather difficult sometimes >_< I'm not going to lie - my 12'' cintiq has a VERY hard time with red no matter the color settings :-\

I need to finish up my sculpting before me move >_< I think this is about 95% done in terms of digital sculpting.

I think the head and neck could stand some work, and a final polish pass on the robes which look a bit lumpy.

I believe the radish will be one of the least threatening enemies in the upcoming game.

And a little texture spotlight on the face from the actual flat texture file. I looked at a couple of World of Warcraft textures for some inspiration and took note as to how they fake the lighting on areas of their tier armor where there are self illuminated elements or glow orbs on their armor. I tried a little bit of this with the eyes. I think that it helped the texture pop out a bit more.

Watermelon Zombie/Monster

So this little guy proved both fun and challenging. Early on in texturing he came off as a little to friendly, and feedback was that he looked more like a protagonist than an enemy.

As I worked more on the little guy I did my best to add some age spots, cracks, wrinkles and signs of wear and tear; which eventually lead me to this version of him below.

While I had succeeded in making him more menacing, I was presented with a new problem, these fruit need to look more zombie-like, haunted/possessed and less like animals (he was beginning to appear to be a Shark Melon or a Snake Melon). So I went back and reworked the eyes a bit so that he matched the other fruit.

Below are some screens of the final version of the watermelon. The top is with a lower resolution texture to preview the alpha maps for the teeth, and the bottom image is to show off the non teeth watermelon base texture at a higher resolution.

Here are some spotlights on the texture maps, and a high resolution shot of the teeth, I found that while I took my time making all of that awesome detail in the gums and teeth, they really do not show as well at a lower resolution, but I figured I would at least show off all my work in the blog ;-)

I will probably go back and rework the teeth to make them look more human and rotted to fit the zombie feel. But for now I believe the top priority is to crank out more zombie fruit so that the programmers have more to work with and show.

Current freelance project with the Indy Game Developers over at Namazu Studios.

I have been tasked with modeling and texturing 9 low polygon monsters for their iPhone Shooter side project. My goal is to produce a new model/texture every 1-2 weeks in my spare time between work (ideally every week I would like to churn out a new monster)

The models are to be used for an iPhone Platform, in the Unity3D Engine.

All art is being created from provided concept art and shaped based on weekly feedback between Morty and Myself via e-mail

Tomato Zombie

Tomato Zombie was the initial Test Zombie to see if I could nail the style. There were two versions of this model to test the waters in getting the exact style Namazu wished for their characters.

Unused Zbrush Tomato Zombie

This was mostly a quick 'Pitch Sketch' to test the waters in regards to the style they were going for. In a weekend I did this little guy in Zbrush and asked if this was the style they were looking for. The poly count was much too high for the iPhone/Unity 3D Platform. This also was very far from the style they wanted for the game. The game I believe is meant to be a bit more light hearted and this leaned a bit too much in the realistic/scary zombie territory.

While this concept was not used, It was definitely fun to create and do some experimenting.

This model was 1656 Tris, I did not go through with a 'cleanup' the style was declined. The textures below are baked diffuse only.

Bus Stop - Environment Modeling Art Test

Here is my example of environment modeling. This was an art test I completed for the University of Michigan 3D Lab. With the provided photo reference I created a Digital 3D Version to be used in a real-time environment. The base mesh was created first in Maya. Once the model was finished, UVs were then unwrapped and imported in Zbrush. The texture was created from a variety of photo sources using a combination of Zbrush and Photoshop. Once a base texture was completed the model was then detailed in Zbrush. The freeware program Xnormal was used to bake out the normal maps. Once tested in Maya, the textures and model were imported into Unreal 3 Editor and added to a demo level for show.

Organic Sculpting Art Test

Here is my Organic Sculpture from the provided Base Mesh. This was an art test I completed for the University of Michigan 3D Lab. I opted to go the emaciated route for the model. I did this to fight my trend of trying to overly "Beef Up" my anatomy, since I usually draw your typical burly Video Game Super-Hero/Marine/Barbarian characters. I focused mostly on the Front Torso, mostly the rib cage, and a bit on the spine - Definitely can use a lot of refining with anatomy. When I work in Zbrush I mostly focus on form, as opposed to detailing - While there are a few veins here and there, I feel that at the 'detail level' for sculpting it is very easy to overwork and destroy your sculpt.

Shades of Violet Work

Once modeled I was tasked with UV Mapping the models to hand off to a texture artist. I also was tasked with re-mapping 2 character models not modeled by myself as well.
